Update complete. Back to the original post.

Guys, I did it! I completed my NCAS CBA assessment. *sigh of relief*

I booked my assessment soon after I posted my previous post in June.

The first assessment I completed was the Computer Based Assessment (CBA). I live in Vancouver so I completed the assessment here.

A fun fact about the CBA is that Prometric (the company that provides the testing center) have over 100 assessment centers across the world.

This means that if you have started your Canadian License journey from your home country, there is a high likelihood that there is a testing center that is close to you!

Pre-Assessment

Happiness overwhelmed me when BCCNP/NCAS/Prometric announced that they were re-opening for the CBA assessment! I booked my assessment the same day that NCAS had emailed me with a new eligibility ID (required to book an assessment).

COVID-19 delayed my assessment (as I'm sure it did for many others too). My CBA assessment was supposed to have been back in March, so to add another waiting period - especially after NNAS process - made me feel a little (a lot) anxious.

I set the date, and off I went...

NCAS CBA - My Experience

I was not nervous for this assessment. I really wanted to get it over and done with - I mean I know what I know, right?

Firstly to note at the time of my assessment, Prometric did have a mask policy. Any assessment taker had to wear a mask at all times in the assessment center. This was completely fine with me! I was thinking, 'hey, soon I'll be a nurse and my have to wear this mask for 12 hours per shift -- 3 hours is nothing!'

The NCAS website informs you of 'what to expect' in the assessment: https://www.ncasbc.ca/what_to_expect/CBA/Pages/default.aspx

After about 30 minutes into the assessment, the air conditioning got to me. I'm very sensitive to the cold - so this may just be me but I found the room absolutely freezing!! It actually made it very hard for me to concentrate.

As noted on the NCAS website, you do have 3 hours to complete the assessment. I was pretty close to finishing on the 3 hours mark as I was trying to take my time to understand the scenarios and exactly what the questions were asking.

Overall, I wasn't quite sure how I did in the assessment.

What's Next?

As NCAS blend the results of your CBA and Simulation Lab Assessment (SLA), you have to complete both parts of the assessment for them to send you your results. With this, I (un)eagerly waited to complete the SLA. My experience about this will be coming soon!
